My Most Recent Embarrassing Moment
Last night, I taught a breadmaking class as part of our Relief Society Birthday Celebration. It was held in our home teacher's new home so we could use the oven (you are aware of the rule: only reheating food in the church kitchens). I demonstrated how to have hot bread from grinding the wheat to slicing and eating in less than two hours. I even had a batch rising in the pans, so after I demonstrated mixing, I would be able to show the bread as it is ready to be baked. Everything was going well, and we put the bread in the preheated oven and turned down the temperature from 400 to 350, as the recipe stated. I was sharing my testimony of the importance of storing wheat, following the Word of Wisdom, etc., when someone yelled out, "Something's burning!" The homeowner, activity leader and I all rushed to the oven, to find black topped bread! Come to find out, the oven had not reset to 350, but to broil! Thankfully, all six loaves wouldn't fit in the new downstairs oven, and our home teacher had taken the other two loaves upstairs to bake in their more experienced oven. I was silently praying for a miracle of the "loaves and fishes", because we now had two loaves to feed 45 sisters for refreshments. The bread I had just mixed would not be ready for another 1 1/4 hours. In the end, everything worked out. We finished baking the broiled bread, cut the top off, and it was actually delicious with the homemade honeybutter to mask the charcol. We got our miracle and there were two loaves left.
