SHE'S MY GRANDDAUGHTER
Whenever I've asked Emmy what she would like to do when visiting lately, she has suggested a sewing project. She has enjoyed cutting scraps of fabric with her little scissors, stuffing batting into pincushions or soft toys, hand sewing flowers for her hair (I drew dots where the needle should go), and even pinning things. (She can push a pin in and out of fabric better than my sewing students!)
But last time, she wanted to "sew on Grandma's machine." She even brought in a booster seat. This is a flag that she is working on. She knows what flags look like because, "we see one at the school every day when we go for a walk."
I am running the foot pedal, and she knows how and when to put down the presser foot (another thing my sewing students often forget to do), how and when to back stitch, and even how to use the automatic "scissors" on the machine at the end of a seam.
She learned where to place her hands to guide the fabric, too. She even loves to go to fabric stores! She is my granddaughter, after all!
